This week I will be talking about the Australian Shepherd. Australian Shepherds are small-to-medium sized dogs, weighing about 40 to 65 pounds. They are around 1 to 2 feet tall at the shoulder and live to be about 12 to 15 years old. These dogs are very good at agility, obedience, and being guide dogs. Australian Shepherds are good with kids if trained, if not they might try to herd them like sheep. They make great dogs for active families.

Bulldogs

This week’s dog is the Bulldog. Bulldogs are short stocky dogs that are around a foot tall at the shoulder, and weigh between 40 and 50 pounds. They live to be 8 to 12 years old. Bulldogs are wide and muscular with broad heads. They have an underbite, so their lower teeth are over their top teeth. 2151112_english-bulldog-news-large_trans_nvbqzqnjv4bqsw79ne3l8sow4c3ksvyc0jtb_duuzn4bsgq3su8trtc

Because of bulldogs build, they are prone to respiratory and joint problems. They can be lazy dogs, but still need plenty of exercise. Bulldogs however, cannot tolerate humidity and heat. They will most likely overeat if given the chance, so their serving sizes need to be monitored closely.

Samoyed

The dog I will be discussing this week is the Samoyed. Samoyeds were bred to her reindeer, hunt, and pull sleds. They are friendly, gentle, yet strong-willed dogs. Samoyeds can be 1 to 2 feet tall at the shoulder, and weigh roughly 50 to 60 pounds. Their average lifespan is about 12 to 14 years. Samoyeds have a unique upturn of the corner of their mouths, called the “Sammy smile”. smiling-sammy-samoyedThese dogs usually chose one special person to devote themselves to, but are affectionate to everyone and make great family dogs. Samoyeds have extremely thick white fur, and shed a lot in the Spring. If Samoyeds aren’t kept busy, they will find something to do like digging, getting into garbage, and chewing shoes. Since they were bred for hunting, Samoyeds have a strong urge to chase squirrels, rabbits, and other small animals.

Pugs

This week I will be talking about the Pug. Pugs are small smushy faced dogs. They weigh around 14 to 18 pounds and are around 10 inches tall at the shoulder. The average lifespan for pugs is 12 to 15 years. pug

Pugs are generally happy, loyal, affectionate, playful dogs. They can be “yappy” and shed a lot, but they are good dogs for small houses or apartments. Because of the way pugs noses are, they can sometimes have breathing problems. They often snore very loudly and can become overheated easily.

They weigh anywhere from 35 to 65 pounds. Huskies have a lifespan of about 12 to 15 years. They are independent intelligent dogs that can be difficult to train. Siberian Huskies are known for escaping, so owners should be always on the lookout for them. They can be very destructive if left alone uncrated. Huskies don’t usually bark, however they do howl. Here are a few links to show what kinds of noises huskies make:
