The dog I will be discussing this week is the Samoyed. Samoyeds were bred to her reindeer, hunt, and pull sleds. They are friendly, gentle, yet strong-willed dogs. Samoyeds can be 1 to 2 feet tall at the shoulder, and weigh roughly 50 to 60 pounds. Their average lifespan is about 12 to 14 years. Samoyeds have a unique upturn of the corner of their mouths, called the “Sammy smile”. These dogs usually chose one special person to devote themselves to, but are affectionate to everyone and make great family dogs. Samoyeds have extremely thick white fur, and shed a lot in the Spring. If Samoyeds aren’t kept busy, they will find something to do like digging, getting into garbage, and chewing shoes. Since they were bred for hunting, Samoyeds have a strong urge to chase squirrels, rabbits, and other small animals.
